The Zonta Club of Fort Collins supports many types of programs and projects that support women in our local area through advocacy, service and offering scholarship opportunities. Over the years we are proud to have supported a growing community art and education project called "Living Her Legacy" founded by one of our longstanding club members and Fort Collins residents, Patti Smith.

The Zonta Club of Fort Collins was chartered in 1997 yet our work in community advocacy spans over 40 years. Club members work together on advocacy and service projects, and scholarship opportunities to local single Moms and women pursuing higher education through annual and special events. Our service and advocacy projects offer assistance to our community partners by helping to increase awareness about local women who are victims of violence and human trafficking,

Our parent organization, Zonta International, celebrated 100 years of advocacy for women in 2019.  As a celebration our club curated a photograph/personal story exhibit at the Global Village Museum titled ‘Inspirational Women – Rising through Adversity’, October 2019-February 2020.  On International Women’s Day 2020  we jointly produced a live presentation with the Bas Blue Theater called ‘Engaging Voices’.  In 2020 we hosted our first live Facebook event ‘Beware and Be Aware of Domestic Violence’ with a forum of local leaders from our community partners that provide legal assistance, education and shelter for victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Service Projects
  • Birthing Kit Project: This project, done in cooperation with Think Humanity a 501 (c) (3) organization located in Loveland, CO, provides birthing kits to women in Uganda. Zonta Club of Fort Collins provides the materials and volunteer labor to assemble the birthing kits. Birthing kits are essential in reducing both mother and infant mortality in developing countries. Most women, for reasons of isolation, cultural choice, or poor transport have little or no assistance during childbirth. Many mothers and babies die from preventable infections. By providing a clean birthing kit and training in how to use it, these mothers will have the resources to reduce infection.  In October, 2015 we completed our 1000th birth kit with the help of the Fort Collins Chamber Red Carpet members during their nonprofit volunteer day.   The birthing kit project has continued to provide these necessities to women in Uganda.
  • What Were You Wearing exhibit at Front Range Community College (FRCC), Larimer campus: This exhibit, created at the University of Kansas, is a powerful visual that dispels the myth that the clothes that a person wears attracts sexual predators and leads to sexual violence.  Studies show most victims are assaulted by someone they know.  Clothes have no bearing on whether a person will be sexually assaulted, nor is gender a factor. The exhibit was made possible in collaboration with the Counseling Department at FRCC in April 2022, Sexual Assault Awareness month.
  • Denim Day 2022:  Club members distributed business cards with sexual assault hotlines from SAVA and Alternatives to Violence in Fort Collins and Loveland to local consignment shops and boutiques.  The hotline cards were stacked on the counters at checkout.  They served as a discrete method of providing immediate help and  information to victims of sexual assault.  Denim Day was created to dispel the myth that clothes are the reason for sexual assault.  Supporters wore also wore denim to illustrate the cause. The awareness campaign occurs every April, Sexual Assault Awareness month
  • Ukraine Necessities Drive 2022:  Clubs in District 12, friends of Zonta and many of our club members donated women's necessities for a refugee shelter in Lviv, Ukraine to support the women fleeing Ukraine for safety. Fellow Zontian, Luba Maksymovych organized the shelters.  Our Club President, Julie Trone, met with Luba in Hamburg at the Zonta International Convention to reach out to help. By late summer fifteen boxes of hygiene products, women's undergarments, and warm clothing were assembled.  After overcoming the issues with customs, they were finally delivered to Luba on Thanksgiving Day 2022.
